Building work has commenced on the new £12m health centre in Walkden. The health centre is being built on a derelict site and will house a GP practice, a council 'One Stop Shop', community rooms and cafe.

The existing services at the Walkden Clinic and Walkden adult and children's library will transfer to the new site in late 2008 when construction will be completed.

The new facility for the library will ensure it can now expand its services for the local community.
