Friday 29th September 2006 saw a significant achievement for the MaST LIFTCo Partnership and North Manchester Primary Care Trust as handover for the new £2.9m state of the art health centre at Openshaw took place, the first for North Manchester.
Tim Presswood, Chairman of North Manchester Primary Care Trust cut the ribbon to formally accept the building from MaST LIFTCo. David King, Chief Executive Officer performed his last duty by accepting the key from Richard Groome, Chief Executive Officer of MaST LIFTCo, as he retired from office on Friday 26th September 2006.

Richard Groome expressed his gratitude to Laing O’Rourke Construction Northern Limited especially to Steven Brownsett, Site Manager for LORCN for his enthusiasm and professionalism to this project and delivering it on time. The health centre has been built to very high specifications - the interior boasts a very impressive stainless steel and glass staircase placed in the glass sections of the building overlooking Ashton Old Road. The staircase leads to the first floor accommodation which includes a Reception, Clinical rooms, major treatment room and staff quarters.

The ground floor contains a large Activity room for use with numerous events, including a play area and has plenty of storage space for equipment, toys etc. The Reception area is spacious with seating for the patients.

The Doctor’s surgeries are very impressive with French Doors leading on to a garden area. There have been specially designed slatted wooden and steel security shutters to cover the French doors.

This health centre is a major improvement for the people of North Manchester, and the result of the successful LIFT partnership. MaST now has 5 operational centres with another four under construction.
